For a long period of time, the ocean has been nourishing the growth and development of mankind, like a mother to her loving children. However, humans have been dumping all kinds of wastes and useless materials into the ocean in return. You would feel devastated and effortless when you have to stay on a beach filled with rubbish and waste, while all romantic descriptions in literature about the sea would become nonsense.

The performance “the Distance between the Ocean and Us” successfully combines the elements of the “Playback Theatre” with multimedia features, utilizing the marine wastes collected from beach-cleaning activities as the medium. Suitable materials have been processed, recreated, and transformed into some unique puppets, called “Haifeiou (puppets from marine wastes)”. Performers use their skillful hands and creativity, combining with their artistic body movements, multimedia images and music, to present a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience.
